Opening the Cash Drawer

If your cash drawer plugs into the receipt printer, the till can open it for you. Switch it on for each till in Settings > Print > Cash drawer, then pick the receipt printer it is plugged into.

This has to be your real receipt printer. A virtual one such as Microsoft Print to PDF will never open a drawer, because the command travels to the printer itself and only a physical receipt printer can pass it down the drawer cable. Use Test Drawer on the same screen to check the wiring before you serve a customer.

At the till, press F8 or click Drawer, choose a reason (make change, cash drop, till count, correction, or other), and confirm.

Every open is written to the audit log with the reason, the till, and who did it, so you can review them later under Reports > Audit Log. Two things worth being clear about: the record shows that an open was requested, and the drawer’s physical key still opens it without leaving any trace, so treat the log as a deterrent and a way to reconcile the till rather than as proof.

By default anyone who can use the POS can open the drawer. If you would rather a manager approved each one, turn on Opening the Cash Drawer in Settings > Security. That also gives staff who do not have the permission a way in, with a manager entering the supervisor password. If you want the drawer restricted to certain people instead, remove the Open cash drawer permission from the others in Settings > Team.

Loyalty Integration (Optional)

If you enable Loyalty in Settings, customers can earn points on every purchase and redeem them for discounts. More on this in the Loyalty section below.

Frequently asked questions

Does a POS sale reduce my stock?

Yes. Every POS transaction is recorded as an invoice and stock is reduced immediately, so your inventory and reports stay accurate without any extra step.

What payment options does POS support?

POS supports cash, card, store credit, and custom payment methods. It records cash tendered and calculates change, and it can apply line-item or whole-sale discounts, with supervisor approval if you configure that.

Can I reprint a receipt for a recent sale?

Yes. The Recent Sales panel at the till lists your recent transactions with reprint options.
